5 Impactful Employee Appreciation Ideas

We all know that overwhelming feeling of being a little too tired when we sit down at our desk first thing in the morning and open up our seemingly impossible list of tasks. Do you ever think to yourself “what could make the day better for the entire team?” In my opinion, of course a good cup of coffee would help but what about a little extra employee recognition too? From small team appreciation ideas like a verbal or written thank you to a full on celebration, a bit of appreciation can boost morale and show your team that all the hard mornings do not go unseen or undervalued.

Employee appreciation day is upon us and we deserve a little (or a lot) of employee recognition

From one event coordinator to a coffee friend, here are 5 employee appreciation day ideas that you can easily take charge of in your workplace today:

Book a Creature Coffee Cart

This will always be my top suggestion because coffee is not only a source of tasty energy but a great way to connect with others. Whether you want your employees/coworkers to have some one-on-one time while waiting for their next meeting or surprise them with a break to celebrate all of their hard work, booking a coffee cart is the perfect moral booster for either situation!

Some offices like Sailpoint have become our long term coffee friends by having us in 3 days a week every week but we also customize our events to fit everyone’s needs! Recently we served a new office for their “return to office” celebration and were left a review that stated:

“Creature Coffee Co was amazing for our employee event! Super efficient, friendly, and organized. Huge shoutout to the baristas Liz, Grace, Sam, and David for going above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy. They kept the lines short and served everyone quickly with the best attitude. Our team loved it.”

We love serving teams as the energy is always high and conversation is good. Sometimes it goes a long way just to see your coworker's or your boss’s face when not everyone gets to be in the office at the same time.

Check out our coffee cart services here. We make it super easy for you to book and simply enjoy the coffee with your team while we do the rest of the work!

Craft and Write Appreciation Notes

The next two ideas are a bit of a throwback because who doesn’t love a little nostalgia these days. Here at Creature Coffee our slogan is “Let’s Be Friends” and what better way to bring this theme into your workplace than an easy crafting project. We already have the paper, scissors, way too many writing utensils, and tape so lets get to it.

Do you remember the thrill of decorating and taping up your hand-made folder to the wall and counting the days until you could take out all the notes inside? I hope you do because here is a simple 4 step craft to turn this old grade school project into a fun employee recognition event:

Step 1: Cut out a small 5x5 in square and tape it to a piece of standard printer paper creating a pocket.

Step 2: Decorate the paper and pocket with your name and all your work appropriate creative ideas.

Step 3: Set a designated wallspace to tape up each team members pocket paper.

Step 4: Send out an email with a deadline and the prompt is: By the due date, please leave a note (anonymous or named) in your team members pocket paper stating something positive they did for the team recently. On the due date, everyone gets to read their notes together!

Host a Company Field Day

The next nostalgic idea is inspired by field day and in this one, we are playing for everyone to win. Personally I love a good goal oriented task list. This can be easy to achieve for a team appreciation event because realistic goals can be set up for fun and prize winning! Here is what I am thinking:

Set up a goal board with small tasks assigned to each employee. Example: send out 10 emails by 10am, typing speed contest between (name vs name), who has had the longest phone time the past week? etc. It can be an easy everyday task that has a reward behind it.

Prizes from small businesses because we love supporting small businesses! Here are some Austin and Seattle based prizes that you can snag for your team appreciation field day:

Creature Coffee Beans  - Austin + Seattle

Lady Babka Treats - Austin

Firstlight Books - Austin

Station 7 Home Goods - Seattle

Bite Society Snacks - Seattle

Team Dinner but Family Style

I don’t know about you but I have stayed up to date with the show “The Bear” because it really is just that good. Especially being on the service industry side, I appreciate the honesty and community created in it. It is real and not just for service industry teams.

To ring in this new year the owners of Creature Coffee gifted the Creature full timers to a wonderful dinner at Comedor in downtown Austin. We were served a family style meal which meant that huge plates came out that were passed around the table to share instead of 1 small individual plate. This created great conversation between the team as we laughed about the chaos and good times that we managed in 2025. Having a celebration dinner for a year's worth of hard work meant so much to us, especially since it was a direct team appreciation from the owners.

Food has traditionally always been a way to connect and create a sense of value in relationships which I think can easily translate to professional work relationships as well. If you haven’t tried a family style meal and want to create a sense of community with your team, I definitely recommend this one for employee appreciation day! You can even watch a clip from “The Bear” to see the type of positive environment a family meal can create after a long hard work day.

Start a Team Education Fund

Lastly, we can keep this team appreciation idea short and sweet. I bet it is safe to say that employees feel recognized and appreciated when given the opportunity to further their education in their field. Whether it is a class on sales or a certification they have been wanting, creating an education fund for your team could be quite simple. If not monthly, quarterly or even yearly, the fund can be dedicated to keeping your team appreciated and educated on the current job they are doing!

It is so important to keep morale high in the workplace so everyone can feel energized and valued when it comes to getting their job done. Putting your thoughts and time into your team is extremely valuable because we all want to see each other do our best! Having a specialty coffee cart at your workplace is sure to be the cherry on top and I know that is coming from a coffee lover who is a coffee event planner but you can’t go wrong with a good beverage. From Team Creature to you, we hope to see you soon and enjoy our employee appreciation day ideas!
