Cocoa Tango

A silky-smooth sipper that waltzes through cocoa powder, milk chocolate, and caramel apple, with a cherry twist and an almondy crunch at the end. From the cool hills of Huehuetenango, this crowd-pleaser is crisp, round, and dangerously drinkable. Great for cozy mornings, chill afternoons, or dancing alone in your kitchen.

Cocoa Tango returns for another spin — and this year’s lot has even more rhythm. Grown by smallholder producers in Guatemala’s famed Huehuetenango region, this washed coffee showcases everything we love about the highlands: crisp clarity, structured sweetness, and layers of cozy, nostalgic flavor.

Think cocoa powder, milk chocolate, caramel apples, juicy cherry, and roasted almonds—all wrapped in a balanced body that makes it a go-to.

This year’s lot, sourced through long-time partners DNC Coffee (formerly Dinámica), comes from producers working with La Minita’s Candelaria mill in Guatemala at 1,600–2,000 MASL. Bourbon, Caturra, Pache, and Typica cherries undergo 36 hours of dry fermentation, a wash, and slow sun-drying—a classic process that preserves terroir and a crisp finish.

Cocoa Tango is a “connector coffee”: easy to love, versatile, and crowd-pleasing whether brewed as filter, espresso, or batch. It’s a delicious showcase of what smallholder lots can achieve when given care and market access. We’re thrilled to share it again. Let it dance.

We never ship old coffee — your order is packed within days of roasting so you taste peak flavor in every bag of beans.

  • We ship Tuesday, through to Friday every week.

Some bank holidays may affect shipping by 24 hours.

  • Yes! We ship all orders fresh from our roastery, and expedited shipping is available at checkout if you need your beans in a hurry. Standard shipping usually gets coffee to most U.S. addresses in 2–5 business days, but if you can’t wait that long, select a faster option and we’ll make sure your coffee is roasted, packed, and on its way without delay.

  • Not every coffee we roast carries the official organic seal, but every bean we source meets our strict quality standards. Each lot is carefully tested and selected to ensure it’s clean, fresh, and mold-free. Many of our coffees are grown using organic or sustainable practices, and some hold certifications such as USDA Organic and Rainforest Alliance. Since many of our producers are small, they may not carry certification in their country of origin or in the U.S. — but their farming methods are just as careful and responsible. For us, it’s about more than a label: it’s about roasting coffees that are traceable, ethically farmed, and taste incredible in your cup.

  • Yes. While most of our coffees are roasted to light-medium, we offer a darker roasted coffee too. IN general, we tend to roast coffees to their full potential, unlocking flavor notes. This means sometimes going light, and sometimes going a little darker. We will, however, never burn our coffee. It's far too good for that!

Each bag of beans will have a roast profile on the front of the bag, and on the website when you purchase.

  • Specialty coffee is the top tier of coffee in the world — beans that score 80+ points on the Specialty Coffee Association’s quality scale. It means the coffee is grown with care, harvested at peak ripeness, and free from defects like mold or bitterness.

Beyond the score, specialty coffee celebrates unique flavor profiles that reflect the farm, region, and roast. At Creature Coffee, we source from small-lot producers who prioritize sustainability and quality, then roast each batch to highlight sweetness, balance, and complexity. In short: it’s coffee that tastes as good as it makes you feel.

  • Our blue, yellow, and pink labels are your shortcut to finding your perfect cup, no coffee degree required. Blue is our easygoing lineup, great for anyone who loves a delicious, approachable coffee. Yellow gets a little more adventurous for friends ready to explore more unique flavors. Pink is our playful, funky side, the rare and hard-to-find coffees for the truly curious. Wherever you start, there's no wrong door.

  • Ah, a question we're asked all the time! The truth is, any coffee can be brewed as espresso, cold brew, or pour over. The better question is: what flavors are you looking for? Blends are often designed to be approachable, balanced, and easy to dial in, while single origins can highlight unique fruit, floral, or origin-specific flavors. At Creature, we use Friend Blend and Easy Peasy across all brew methods. If you're looking for a versatile crowd-pleaser, start with our blue labels. If you're chasing something more adventurous, explore the yellow and pink lineup.

  • Using a scale is one of the easiest ways to make better coffee. Coffee scoops vary, spoonfuls vary, and even the same person measures differently from day to day. A scale removes the guesswork and helps you brew consistently every time. Most coffee professionals rely on simple ratios as a starting point - around 1:14-1:16 coffee to water for drip and pour over, and 1:2 for espresso. Once you've dialed in your coffee and water amounts, you can start adjusting one variable at a time - grind size, water temperature, flow rate, and more - making it much easier to find that perfect cup.
