My oh my, have you stumbled across something beautiful.

If you, like us, tend to nerd out over your coffee then you're probably familiar with Guji or Yirgacheffe as they have become some of the most sought-after coffees in the world in recent years. Well, Banko Berry comes from a region that exists just between those two and showcases its own terroir, history, and community.

From the very first moment that the samples arrived, we were thrown back on our heels by the explosion of flavor on that first slurp on our cupping table. Wafts of fruity perfume and a sparkling clean, candy-like structure, really brought us in before knocking us back. It really is explosive.

Grown in some of the highest coffee elevations in the world, the Banko Taratu community includes co-op members from a number of union-affiliated farms and we love to know that they are being treated fairly as they work to grow and process this incredible product.

The processing site, operated by EDN Coffee Export and a gentleman called Michael Gebreselassie, is really turning the region on its head with their continual innovation. The site itself is managed by brothers Seleshi and Degafe Beyene, but it's the 190 staff members who manage the day-to-day natural processing and drying during harvest season that keep the wheels spinning.

They are a young company and we're excited to see what their future has in store as they continue to work on exciting concepts like honey processing and anaerobic fermentation techniques, continually chasing a portfolio that will best serve the farmers and help the industry achieve new ideals.
